Special Announcement...Home Coupon Classes!

I told you something exciting was coming, and here it is!  I am starting Home Coupon Classes! I have had several requests from you to bring what I do into your home... I've been listening!!

Here are the details:
  • This is essentially a "coupon class" in your home.  Its comfy, fun, educational, and you pick the time!
  • We will be covering Coupon Basics and Grocery 101.  Its everything you need to start saving money, living more fully and giving to those in need (that part isn't painful, I promise!!)
  • If you are outside my local area, we can STILL party through Skype!  Get your friends together in your home, and I'll do the coupon class over the computer through video.  (I'll email you the handouts so you will have them in advance.)
  • I am keeping my prices very low.  For a class with less than 5 people, the cost is $10/person,  5-9 people is $8/person, and 10 and over is $5/person.  What would a coupon class be without a "deal" to be had? :)
  • As the hostess, your job is easy.  You get your friends together (I have a consistent invitation on evite you can use) AND your class fee is waived!
Email me at seedtosowblog@gmail.com to reserve your date today!

Groceries Galore, This Weeks' Totals

Great week for me at Publix!  I also picked up a few things at Kroger that I absolutely was sure would be cheaper there.  I didn't have the kids with me so that made it easy to run in and out of those 2 stores :)

I had to get several full priced dairy items at Publix and still managed to pull off some pretty good savings due to 2 coupons I used.  If you are local to me, watch the Review Appeal closely.  Usually there is a $5/$50 order on the HG Hills ad.  Remember that Publix takes competitors coupons!  This coupon works on the total before using other coupons so be sure to hand it to the cashier first or it won't work when your total drops below $50.  I also just got a $5/$30 coupon in the mail from Publix that I used as well.  Set up your "coupon" email account and sign up for everything- I get coupons in the mail almost daily.

Not a great pic, but you get the idea :)

Here's the breakdown:

Bagels for Breakfast- An Inexpensive Treat

What a treat... homemade bagels!  They were surprisingly easy to make and at $.09 a bagel, you can't lose!

I followed this recipe, but there are so many of them out there.  Bagels don't have to rise as long as bread does, so for a yeast bread this is a relatively fast recipe!  Some recipes require boiling, some don't.  I went with one that did.

My only piece of advice is to make sure that you don't over boil.  I got distracted and accidentally left a few of them in too long... they came out like hockey pucks!

After boiling, they bake for about 25 minutes.  We smothered ours in cream cheese and the strawberry freezer jam I made the other day... YUM!!!  (sorry I didn't set up a Food Network quality picture for you there :)

Kid to Kid Semi Annual Sale!

Ambra just received this email:

I'm not sure if this is happening at all locations so check with your local store.  This email was in regards to the Franklin, TN store.  Go HERE to see a list of Kid to Kid consignment stores.  (They also take gently worn kids clothes, so be sure to take yours in!)

Thanks Ambra!

Monday's Meal Plan

Monday blew right past me!  I didn't go grocery shopping this weekend because we are pretty well stocked so my routine was thrown off a little bit.  We have a few things going on this week so I am not doing a ton of cooking.  Those weeks are nice, aren't they?

Here's what we are planning on for this week:

Monday: (already had) Chicken Enchiladas
Tuesday: Tuna Casserole, swiss chard from garden
Wednesday: My Birthday... I don't know what we are doing, but I'm not cooking! :)
Thursday: Turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy (didn't eat last week)
Friday: Eating at a friends house!

Lunches: quesadillas, chicken salad (using cut up chicken from the freezer), soup

Breakfasts: Homemade bagels, cereal, waffles

Museum Day- Free Admission!

Go HERE for more information about free admission to hundreds of different museum locations on Museum Day (September 26th)!   The museum card isn't available for print yet, but mark your calendars and check back to print it.

Strawberry Freezer Jam

I decided to try my hand at canning, but quickly realized I needed some supplies that I just didn't have, so that will have to wait.  For now, I had some strawberries that were about to go bad and I needed to do something that was fairly easy.  I looked up a recipe for making homemade apple pectin instead of using the packet from the store.  You do this by boiling unripe apples- peels, cores and all, straining it and then reducing that liquid down by half.

Then I combined 4 cups pureed berries, 2 tbsp lemon juice, 1/2 cup agave and 2/3 cup apple pectin.   (I like mine a little more on the tart side)

Then I got my cute little jars all ready, filled them up, and put them in the freezer!  The good news is that for freezer jam, you don't need cute little jars.  You can use yogurt containers, baby food jars, etc.

It tastes delicious!  Unfortunately, my apple pectin set some, but not all the way.  I think my granny smiths were a little too ripe.  Next time I will try it with crab apples instead.

The awesome news is that I made all 11 of my little jars for about $3.75.  That sure beats buying it at the store AND what a fun adventure! :)

Anyone have any good freezer jam tips??

New Kraft Printables

There are 3 new Kraft Printables up- I LOVE when there are cheese coupons.. we eat a lot of it around here!  Remember to use your back browser to print them twice.  They say "Redeem at Publix" on them- Just watch for a sale and use your coupon then.  They expire on 8/27 so don't do too much watching :)

7/28 Coupon Class Postponed

Due to several people needing to reschedule, I'm postponing our 7/28 coupon class to a later date.  I actually have something really exciting and new that I'm working on that could end up replacing these!  I'll fill you in very soon.

I would love to take the opportunity to thank YOU for reading!  I also love hearing from you so if there is topic you would like to see covered or a ministry/organization you want featured on "Saturday's Seed to Sow", send an email to seedtosowblog@gmail.com.

Have a great day!

Bread Heels Rescued!

Normally bread heels end up in the trash around here.  If we are low on bread I might try to get away with spreading the peanut butter on the "yucky" side to make a sandwich for the kids... oh but soooo not worth getting caught, haha!

About 3 weeks ago, I started putting my bread heels in the freezer.  My first thought was that I would use them in meatloaf (I just rub 2 pieces together to get crumbs).  But then it all came flooding back to me... how much I love bread pudding!  I looked up this recipe online and let my bread thaw and sit out for a few hours to get even drier (being frozen helps with the dryness too). I cut it up into cubes and followed the rest of the recipe.  DELICIOUS!  No more heels going to waste AND a yummy dessert to show for it!

It's also a great recipe that uses up that manager's special milk. I made a couple minor modifications by using Agave nectar and using a tiny bit less milk.  I also increased the amount of bread by about a cup.  I'm so sorry I didn't get a picture!  I must have been too excited about my pudding that I neglected my readers... please forgive :)

One of my all time favorite desserts is at an Irish pub here in town that serves bread pudding with a little Bailey's drizzled on it.  Mmmmmmmmmmmm!  What do you like to add in or on your bread pudding?  Also, anybody have any other bread heel ideas?

Publix Penny Item- Sunday and Monday

According to Southern Savers, the mystery Penny Item for Sunday and Monday is:

Publix Hot Dogs
(the house Kosher brand can be substituted, just ask)

Florida and some Georgia stores do not participate in this promotion.. sorry :(

You are eligible to receive the penny item when your total hits $10 before you hand over your coupons.  Many of our local stores do not require that you take the penny item coupon (found in the weekly Sunday ad), but I have heard change is happening in a few places, so take the coupon just in case.

Saturday's Seed to Sow

For this weeks' Seed to Sow, I want to introduce you to Mercy Ministries.  This is an amazing biblically based program that works with young women who are looking to be free from issues such as addictions, depression, abuse or who are dealing with unplanned pregnancy.  They work with women from all different types of back grounds between the ages of 13-28.  If you want to learn more about Mercy Ministries and what you can do to help, go HERE.

This is a perfect opportunity to donate those toiletry, school and baby items you can pick up from CVS and Walgreens this week (see my previous post).  Of course monetary donations are always good too!  Go HERE for a list of locations.

Thanks for giving to someone in need this week!
